Governing Body
John Jolly
Chair of Governors/Co-opted Governor
I have been a Co-opted member of the Middle Schools Local Governing Board since 2020 and currently serve as Chair. I have found being a governor a valuable experience. Being able to support and guide the schools in providing the highest standards of education is rewarding. The Mast academy have provided me with an excellent governor induction, ongoing training and support.
I have three children who all went to Kirkburton Middle School. My oldest two have both progressed to University. My youngest daughter is currently at Shelley College. I am now retired following a 35-year career in healthcare.
As a governor, I have undertaken a range of responsibilities, including oversight of curriculum, standards and SEND. I particularly value the opportunity to work alongside school leaders, staff, and fellow governors to ensure that pupils receive a broad, enriching, and inclusive educational experience.
Liz Godman
Co-opted Governor
Liz has been a trust appointed governor within the MAST Academy Trust for six years, initially at Kirkburton Middle School and subsequently for the local governing committee of both middle schools. She was also a trustee for MAST from 2018-2026. Her particular areas of interest are in special educational needs and safeguarding.
Her professional background has been in education, initially teaching in a primary school and in a provision for children with SEND. She has also taught in initial teacher education and has been an adviser, inspector and education officer in two local authorities. This covered a wide range of duties as well as special educational needs. She was an Ofsted inspector from 1993-2015, leading inspections in all types of school.
Her son, who is now in his thirties, attended Scissett Middle School, which he loved. He now teaches 16-19 year old students in a special school.
Kate Fraser
Co-opted Governor
I have been a co-opted member of the Middle Schools Local Governing Board since March 2025. I have two children, one of whom is a pupil at Scissett Middle School and the other at Shelley College. I have fifteen years’ experience of working in education including roles as a teacher and curriculum leader in London, Yorkshire and internationally. Following a career change in 2021, I now work as a researcher and project manager in the arts and cultural sector.
Being a governor is a rewarding experience that allows me to play an active role in our school community. I enjoy working with staff, other governors and trustees to support the schools and help establish and monitor priorities for enhancing educational outcomes.
