We recognise what a big decision choosing a new school is for parents and carers; at Scissett Middle School we aim to provide as much support as possible in order that you choose the right school for your child and your family. The good news is you've got some fantastic schools to choose from in the local area, it goes without saying that we'd love your final choice to be Scissett Middle School .
Unlike most schools, at Scissett we have two points of entry to our school.
Year 6 - Most pupils join us in Year 6. The key dates for applying for a place in our Year 6 are the same as applying for a primary school place i.e. closing dates for applications in January, National Offer Day in April.
Year 7 - We also have a second round of applications as part of the secondary school application process. This means if you were unsuccessful in securing a Year 6 place for your child, they may still be able to join us in Year 7. Every year spaces become available at the end of Year 6 and pupils join us in Year 7. Putting us as your first choice secondary school place will not affect your second and third choices should you be unsuccessful in obtaining a place at Scissett. You must apply for a secondary school place by the end of October, the National Offer Day is in March.
The school holds an annual open evening on the third Tuesday in October each year, this event will give you a real flavour of what our special and truly unique school has to offer. At SMS we are a school that provides outstanding learning opportunities underpinned by a culture of RESPECT by working together, respecting all, because everyone matters.
Families are also welcome to visit the school at any point during the school year, please contact the school office to arrange your visit.

In Year Admissions
You can apply for a place for your child at any time outside the normal admissions round. As is the case in the normal admissions round, all children whose statement of SEN or EHC plan names the school will be admitted. Likewise, if there are spaces available in the year group you are applying for, your child will always be offered a place.
