At Scissett we have a School Council for students across all year groups. Students have a chance to represent their peers, and share with the Senior Leaders of the school, the things that are most important to them as a collective.
At the start of the academic year the existing school council hold a democratic election process that allows all students to have the opportunity to apply for a place in the Student Council. There are two positions that students can apply for; Head of Form and Student Leader. There are two Student Leaders per year group, who oversee the heads of each form group in school. All applicants then produce a speech or video, which is followed by the voting process. Once voted in position, the Student Council members are awarded with a gold tie and Student Council badge.
The Student Council members meet weekly, and through group discussion, come up with three main areas to focus on as the year progresses. This year they are focusing on catering, rewards and recycling. They have successfully led activities and stalls in the school Christmas Fayre where they collectively raised just over £225, and are also looking at how they can raise money for some of the Afghan refugees that are currently housed in Leeds. It is a perfect opportunity to develop your problem solving and leadership skills and will provide you with experience that future employers will be looking for.
