Welcome to our second blog! We have a lot coming up in the next few weeks, so here's a brief look into what "Reading Events" are on the horizon:
World Book Day:
"Hi it's Zac! Coming up next month is World Book Day on Thursday March 3rd - With a lot prepared, including the "decorate your own potato competition" (book characters only), a World Book Day Quiz at Huddersfield Town Hall, a book swap and the Scholastic Book Fayre - back again after a 2 year break due to the pandemic."
"Harry here, Zac just explained what is coming, so I'm going to give you a bit more information: So, the potato decoration competition - you have to design a potato that looks like a book character. If you are looking for ideas, try: Harry Potter or Paddington, for example. Check out the video on the school Facebook page for further information. The book quiz is at Huddersfield Town Hall and there will be 2 teams of 4, one from Y6 and one from Y7. The quiz is on Thursday 3rd of March, so actually on World Book Day; I'll be competing, so wish me luck (I'll need it!) Bye!"

World Book Day - Book Swap
On Thursday 3rd March, we are holding a "book swap" in the hall at break time. You can bring as many books as you'd like to swap and can claim up to 5 books in return.
How it works:
Once you have donated your books, you will receive a token for each book (up to 5) which you can then exchange for another book on the day of the swap. There will hopefully be a variety of books to choose from!
(Please be considerate of the condition in which the books are donated.)
Thank you!

The Learning Resource Centre (LRC)
You may have noticed that there has been some building work near the library, which has resulted in its temporary closure; you will be glad to know that it won't be closed for much longer! As the construction comes to and end and the library is readied for use again, we would love to hear from you, with any ideas or requests on how best to utilise this space. Please speak to any of the Reading Ambassadors (check out the last blog for who we are) if you have any questions, or suggestions for the LRC.
In addition to the upcoming book swap, if you have any books (in good condition) that you are willing to donate to the library, we would be very grateful!
We will also soon be on the lookout for student librarians; if this is a role you are interested in, keep an eye out for when applications open soon!
Thanks!
Isla
The Scholastic Book Fair
With the reopening of the library on the horizon, there will be a Scholastic Book Fair, where students will be able to browse and buy books. This year, we are going cashless - so instead of having to bring money into school, you can place your order from home and pay online! The fair will be open from Monday 7th March to Friday 11th March and orders for books will close after this point. More information about this will be coming your way after the half term break.
There will be a wide range of books to choose from!
Sophie
With some much to look forward to in March, it's a good thing February is the shortest month of the year!
See you all in the next blog!
