Website Statement

Welcome to Scissett Middle School’s website. Whether you are browsing through this site as a student, parent or as a visitor, I welcome you and hope you get a sense of what it is like to be a part of this unique school.

I am very honoured to have joined the school in Easter 2016 as Headteacher, having worked previously in schools from the secondary and Post 16 sector. In the short time I have been at the school, I have quickly learned that Scissett Middle School is a fantastic place to work and learn; a school at the heart of the local community which allows young people to flourish and grow. Pupils here are happy; engaged and respectful. They have a passion for learning and want to ‘get on’ with the job of doing well. Staff work tirelessly to ensure they feel nurtured; valued and challenged to be the best they can and strong relationships, at all levels, underpin an ethos of respect and care.

As a secondary leader, I am very aware of the challenges young adults face in an ever changing examination system and employment market. Not only do young people need to be fully literate and numerate but they need to be resilient and resourceful; adaptable and determined. These are attributes at the heart of the school’s nurturing ‘child-centred’ ethos which means that all young people, regardless of ability, are stretched and challenged in a way which places them at the centre of their own progress. We want our students to be independent thinkers and self-governing learners who are able to lead themselves in the learning process so they leave us equipped for the journey ahead.

In a time of great change in education, we recognise the true value of collaboration. We work alongside other schools within our Trust and across the Pyramid of schools to ensure all children have a high quality experience as they move through the phases of their education. We are outward facing as a learning community and are always looking at how we can innovate and develop our provision to ensure it continues to evolve as a child-centred and thriving place to learn and a rewarding and happy place to work.

If you would like to visit the school, I would be very happy to show you around. Please contact school to make an appointment at a mutually convenient time.
