Careers information in West Yorkshire
Wednesday 9 May was the start of our drop down sessions for careers. It was launched by Eorl Crabtree and Brian Blacker from the Huddersfield Giants Super league team.
Eorl and Brain talked about their careers and also all the other exciting careers you can have in sports to do with marketing, accounts, strength and conditioning and all the behind the scenes jobs we don't see.
The students are then working with their form tutors learning about their personalities and interests - to see if they are suited to certain jobs. We are also going to be working through our careers booklet learning about different routes to take and different careers out there.
On the Wednesday afternoon the students will be learning about money, wages, payslips, mortgages, budgeting and seeing how they can afford to have a certain lifestyle. Some will also be having a go at interviewing each other for jobs.
Thursday and Friday will be a little bit different - we have invited lots of visitors in from Huddersfield University, Kirklees college, Barnsley and Wakefield college are all coming in to talk about which routes to take after high school. We also have an Apprenticeship Company and a careers advisor attending.
As well as educational professionals we have also secured lots of exciting employers and companies to come in - including performing arts - Stagecoach, Forensics, personal trainers, nurses, the army, Shepley Spring, designers, engineers, inventors, rugby and much more. All the sessions will involve question and answer sessions and practical fun elements.
We hope all our students enjoy the 3 days and get a great deal of ideas to help them make plans for their future world of work.
