Y7 & Y8 Bedrock Learning

27th September 2018

Dear Parents

We are relaunching the use of Bedrock as weekly homework tasks at the school, as the company has improved its technology and support mechanism, meaning that using Bedrock should be a much smoother experience than previously.

You might recall that Bedrock is a website enabling children to learn important academic vocabulary. We firmly believe that children with wide vocabularies make excellent progress at school and in further education.

As your child progresses through the Bedrock curriculum, they will study hundreds of words, whilst regularly reading fiction and non-fiction texts. You will be able see the vocabulary your child is learning, which we encourage you to use in conversation at home. As each post-test is completed, data will appear in the dashboard. You can head over to the site and create your own account now, if you do not already have one.

Step 1: Visit https://portal.bedrocklearning.org/parent-signup/
Step 2: Enter the codes provided to you by the school and create an account.
Step 3: Check your email for your password, and then log in. Be sure to check your junk folder if no email arrives.

If you do experience any technical issues with the Bedrock programme, there is a large ‘support’ button on the right hand side of the screen at all times when in use, which can be pressed; when activated, somebody from Bedrock will get in contact with you within a short time period, in order to provide help. Additionally, a representative of Bedrock is able to access any device using Bedrock remotely, if necessary, to check why issues might have occurred and will assist where possible. Finally, if for any reason you and your child are unable to access Bedrock from home, we now have twice weekly homework clubs (during lunchtimes on Tuesdays and Thursdays) running in the English department, during which students can borrow Kindles to complete Bedrock homework tasks.

We will be closely monitoring the impact and effectiveness of Bedrock at the school over the next few months, but feel optimistic about its success. If you do have any comments or queries, please feel free to contact me at the school, via email: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .

Yours faithfully,
